What will you choose a Traditional or Modern Wedding?
So the Love of your Life has proposed by popping the question, your head is in a spin and you don't know where to start, all the fun begins planning for the big day. Will you choose a Traditional Wedding or a Modern/Contemporary Wedding? Lets have a look at the differences......
Traditional Wedding: Traditional Weddings follow a religious or cultural tradition. Traditional Weddings generally take place in a church or a place of worship depending on your beliefs, led by a religious leader. This ceremony includes readings from the Bible or Religious text with traditional marriage vows.
Modern / Contemporary Wedding: With modern or contemporary Weddings you don’t have any real restrictions or limitations. You and your partner can choose every detail including the Wedding ceremony venue, theme, vows etc. As modern Weddings are typically non-religious in nature, they can take place in any location such as a hall, garden, park, hotel, beach, club so basically anywhere that you wish or can afford. A modern Wedding ceremony can be an event with lots of family and friends, or a couple may choose a simple and intimate civil ceremony. Either of these can be performed by someone who is licensed to conduct a marriage ceremony, such as a Wedding celebrant. In the case of a modern Wedding the Bride and Groom or Same Sex Couple, no matter your gender choice often write their own vows or letter that touches their heart or a poem, or even a song. The choice is yours to make whatever you decide, keeping in mind this special day belongs to you and your partner.
The perfect location!
Once you have decided on your style of Wedding, it's time to choose a location for the perfect venue to reserve and secure your desired time of the year, this is the first thing you need to do, most popular seasons are Spring, Summer and Autumn, so get your date booked in as soon as possible to save any disappointment on missing out on that beautiful venue. You may want that nice little garden Wedding or a serene gorgeous lake or ocean to overlook, whatever your choice you will know what is perfect for you.
Choosing a Service Supplier!
Now that you have secured your Venue you can commence organising who you want to do the following within your budget; Choosing who will be in your Wedding Party, Sending out Save the Date notices, Arrange your Invitations, Choose a Stylist to decorate, Caterer, Photographer, Videography, Cars, Celebrant, Cake, Dress, Suits, Bombonieres, Florist, Seating Plan, Rings, MC, DJ, Photo Booth, Entertainment, Hair and Make Up etc. Whilst making all your arrangements don't forget that Honeymoon you have been dreaming of.
Make sure you get a few quotes and compare prices, prices can vary dramatically between suppliers. I must say it's not easy deciding on who to use or who to trust, especially when most will want a deposit from you. I do know if it feels right it probably is, go with that gut feeling and check their reviews....Good Luck!! Some bookings can be confidently organised just by chatting over a few emails, viewing their Website or Facebook Page, make sure you chat either via email or phone, others you should meet face to face like a Celebrant, MC or DJ. It's a good idea to meet with these service providers to see if their personality suits yours. An MC is the person that will be hosting your event, keeping your event moving and making sure you stay on schedule, it's important they know what your needs and wants are, how you would like your day or evening to run. The last thing you want is to be wasting hours waiting for the speeches to start. A DJ is your entertainment, they will need to know what type of music you would like played at your event, what is special to you. They will want to know your choice of song for the bridal dance and that special daddy and daughter dance, usually a song that holds a special place in your heart. A good DJ will also play a few games in the quiet times, keeping your guests entertained whilst waiting for the meals to be served. The bigger their personality is, the more fun they will be. When choosing a Caterer ask if they provide the necessary tools that you need, like knives and forks you definitely need these. Ask if they provide serviettes, I'm finding most do not want to do any linen these days and who can blame them, yucky dirty little cloths, that then need to be washed and ironed. Then there is the CAKE, the best part about choosing a Cake Decorator is most will provide a taste test before you make a booking....Yum!!
Surprisingly, some clients feel a decorator or stylist is an expense they can do without, they couldn't be more wrong. For one, a stylist will transform an ordinary room to extraordinary, ready for your perfect day. Hiring a stylist/decorator will allow you time to concentrate on your own needs, whilst your stylist is busily organising your Ceremony and Reception, making sure every detail is met. As a stylist, we know how much work is involved, we work on your event many weeks before your big day, organising linen and creating memorable centrepieces and decor. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes, even after your special day is over your stylist is cleaning linen and dismantling decor that was made up for you.
Try to meet up with your stylist at your chosen venue, we at Forever & Beyond Decor meet our clients at a time convenient to all, this provides us with a clearer vision and a better understanding of the layout required for your event, allowing all parties to discuss the best options, colours and decor. It is not essential to meet up if you are time poor, organising can be done by providing enough information required to do your set up via email. It is not necessary to meet for your Ceremony, this can easily be organised via email.
There are many good suppliers in the industry, as a decorator you get to meet quite a few of them throughout the day. I would like to recommend a few of my favourites that I know are passionate about providing you with a fantastic service.
